It was an early Day 1 morning – 6:30 to be exact, and we were already at the airport waiting for our flight – via Sea Plane, to the island that we’ll stay in. We’re expecting our flight at 7:00 am. So, we still had time for a quick coffee.
Come 7:00 am, we’re wondering why no one has approached or looked for us. We started worrying and tried to find the person whom Tonette contacted. They tried to call him but to no avail. Anxiety attack, people. We didn’t want to spend our vacation in the airport…
A couple of minutes passed by, Tonette and Zari were trying to look for and call Ahu – the effing agent, but no luck. They were able to find this other person who then informed us that we were expected to be there before 6:15 am, as our flight was scheduled for 6:30. WE MISSED THE FREAKING PLANE!!! With only a few to none options, we’ve just waited for the resort to arrange another flight to pick us up. After a couple of hours, we boarded another air taxi bound for Maya Phusi Island. And from there, a Dhoni picked us up and brought us to our sanctuary.
But wait! I have to mention that the dock area (or whatever it is called) in Maya Phusi was very, very nice. That area alone made me feel relaxed. A shed having a beautiful view, a bit far from the shore, the calming sound of the ocean, cool breeze touching my face. Ahh…That was life. It could have been better if someone brought me a fresh watermelon juice or if there was a hammock. Is it too much to ask?
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of it as I was, obviously, enjoying the serenity. Hope this will do… 😛
We reached Chaaya Reef Ellaidhoo at around 11 am. And we were welcomed by the receptionist, Ali, who was very friendly and accommodating. He was the guy who helped us prepare the stuff we needed for our birthday surprise for Pats. In the reception, hot wet towelettes and cold drinks were served to us while we were being briefed on our all-inclusive package and the island.
After checking-in into room 212 and being awed by how beautiful the room is, we went straight to Iruosehnee Bar to have our first snack in the island: Tuna Sandwich, fries and fruit juice. We haven’t eaten any good meal since the night before. So, the four of us were really hungry, which is why after an hour, we headed to Madi Restaurant for our first buffet lunch.
The dining hall was cozy but a bit dark. They used sand as their flooring which gives that island-y feel whilst eating. The food was delicious, a variety of western, indian, and a few italian dishes to choose from. However, all the beef dishes that they had were a bit “rubbery”, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, we had a very satisfying meal, and that goes for the rest of our stay. The key word is, BUFFET!
We strolled around the island after finishing our lunch, enjoying the view and the sun. Photo-ops, of course, took place.
We spent the whole afternoon strolling around, taking pictures, enjoying the island for the first time, and most of all, preparing our birthday surprise for Pats, which took later in the evening.
So, we spent the whole day preparing for the surprise and taking pictures of the island. Pats spent hers sleeping, because of migraine.
At around 8 pm, we went back to Madi Restaurant for our buffet dinner. And during that time, the room boy was preparing our room for the birthday surprise: flower petals on the bed, balloons, party poppers and hats, birthday banner (which actually was a table cloth), and a birthday cake. Oh, and one more thing, the party cockroach who ended up R.I.P.
Once we entered the room, Pats was uberly surprised to see the room arranged as that as she was entirely clueless on the plan. Surprise!
It was a success, especially for Tonette and Zari who prepared all of the things. Kudos!
We spent the rest of the night eating the birthday cake, and drinking cocktails and beer at the Iruosehnee Bar, as the staff had reserved a table for us, solely for the event.
The day went by so fast, we didn’t notice that day 1 has already ended. But still, the vacation is still on… 😛
More pics and stories to come. 🙂
